Trask and Alsea watershed studies join the WRC
The Watersheds Research Cooperative has gained two multidisciplinary watershed studies – the Trask Paired Watershed Study and the Alsea Watershed Study Revisited. Both studies, now underway in Oregon, are examining the effects of contemporary forest practices on hydrology, water quality, fish and other aquatic biota.
These studies join the Hinkle Creek Paired Watershed Study under the WRC umbrella, a collaboration that provides greater ecological context to address questions of contemporary forest management effectiveness.
Four students complete master’s degrees using research on watershed studies
Four Master’s degrees have been awarded to Oregon State University students using data from the Hinkle Creek Paired Watershed Study and the Alsea Watershed Study Revisited.
Researchers update Watersheds Research Cooperative projects
Researchers from the Hinkle Creek, Trask and Alsea watershed research studies detailed 2007 results at the regular December meeting of the Watershed Research Cooperative’s Advisory Committee.

WRC Conference
The Watersheds Research Cooperative is planning a 2008 conference highlighting the progress made on the WRC’s paired watershed studies and other research involving the management of headwater streams. Scheduled for October 13 & 14, the conference will be held at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center on the Oregon State University campus. Additional details will be available in this Newsletter or on the WRC website. |

Watersheds Research Cooperative
The Watersheds Research Cooperative plans a new series of long-term paired watershed studies throughout Oregon that will evaluate the environmental effects on water and fish of contemporary forest management practices now in use on younger intensively managed forests.
These studies will be designed to provide credible scientific information, as well as opportunities to convey science findings through demonstration and public education opportunities.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Watersheds Research Cooperative (WRC) is to conduct research on the effects of current and expected forest practices on intensively managed commercial forestland on water quality, fisheries and other water-related values.
